MATH CLASSES

Math 5 - Mistie Angelo

 Curriculum:

The textbook needed for this class will be Teaching Textbooks Math 5.  Some of the topics covered will be operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, simple geometry concepts, units of measure, and percents.  Because this curriculum is an online program, your student will need access to a computer or tablet to complete their daily assignments.  Access to the course is for 12 months. So, when you purchase the app, please enter “August 1st” as your start date.  For more information about this curriculum and to purchase the program, please visit teachingtextbooks.com

 Course Description:

In Class:  During our weekly class time together, approximately 3-5 lessons will be introduced and taught.  Practice problems will be solved together and put into the students’ binders to use for reference for at-home work along with an interactive notebook covering each topic. In addition to the Teaching Textbooks lessons, we will incorporate math games to reinforce the math concepts being taught.  We will also work on fact fluency with a review of addition and subtraction but a primary focus on multiplication and division. Every 10-15 lessons, we will have an in-class test.

Homework:  Students will spend approximately 3 hours per week at home on the 3-5 assigned lessons.  The app provides step by step solutions to all homework problems and will grade the students’ lessons.   Students will work the assigned problems on the provided homework sheets to turn in to class each week. Students will also need to complete fact fluency sheets at home 3 times a week.  A completion log will be initialed by parents to indicate completion and turned in weekly.  Approximately every 4-5 weeks, a fact fluency assessment will be given in class.
